Using this Site
As a registered user you have a Privileges Zone with links to all the areas where you can add content. Once you become a user and log in this zone is located on the bottom left on most pages of the site.
Below are descriptions of each section and directions for use.
Profile
In this section keep your contact details up to date. Remember that the details you post are public so think before you share every detail about yourself.
We do everything we can to protect the site from being harvested of e-mail address and other personal information. See our privacy policy for more on this: www.eriders.net/privacy/
We reserve the right to approve all news and story postings. We hope to disable this feature in the future but want to get more content added in before we let users loose on the site. We will approve all postings within 12 hours of your adding them to the site.
News
This section is dedicated to news you wish to share with the eRider community. Appropriate postings include news releases on new tools, new projects, grant competitions, new reports, news articles from other sites on NGOs and technology etc.
To add news - Click on News in your privilege zone. You will see a list of all the news items you have added. Click on [add] which takes you to the add content form. In the form you must add a title, short summary (3-4 sentences) and the content of your news.
You can also upload a document or picture to go along with your news. Just click browse, select the file on your computer and add it.
Once the form is complete click the Post button.
Stories
One of the most powerful things about eRiding are the great stories eRiders tell about their work. In this section you can post evaluations, case studies of your work, short stories from the field and anything else you want to share with other eRiders.
Directions for adding content to the Stories section is the same as adding News.
Resources
Sharing information on great tools, solutions and innovative work being done online is an important role of the eRider community. In this section you can post hardware, software and web based resources of interest to other eRiders.
We have tried to set up appropriate categories of resources. Please read the description of the category before you post a resource to make sure it is the best place to post. If you think we need a new category e-mail us at team@eriders.net.
To add a resource - Click on Resources in your privilege zone. You will see a list of all the resources you have added. Click [add] and fill out the form with information on the resource. Select a category for the resource. This determines where in the resources section the resource will live. If this is a printed document or reference material go ahead and upload it. Just click browse, select the file on your computer and add it to the news.
Galleries
Seems that just about every eRider we know has a digital camera and is not shy about using it. This section is devoted to photos of eRiders, their work, eRiding, IT or NGO conferences where eRiders are at work.
To start a gallery ? Click on Galleries in your privilege zone. You will see a list of all your current galleries. Click [add] and fill out the form. The first photo you upload is the first one everyone will see when they are browsing galleries. Make it a great one! Once you created the gallery you can then add upload additional photos.
Blogs
If you would like to start a blog for your eRiding project or eRiding related initiative please let us know. We have limited capacity with the site and would like to limit the numbers of blogs to 1 per project or program. If there is sufficient demand we can expand this.
If you just want to set up a personal eRiding blog then we suggest you try www.blogger.com or www.moveabletype.org
A good use of the blog function on this site would be if you were working on a project with eRiders in several countries and want to track contributions to the development. Or if you do not have a website in English for your project and want to keep the eRider community and others updated easily on your work.
E-mail us at team@eriders.net if you would like us to set up a blog for you.
